Sankofa

Album Notes & Community Reviews

The virtuosic Brazilian pianist's third album explores the concept of 'Sankofa', an African philosophy concerning the importance of learning from the past to build the future. Working as a tight acoustic trio, the profoundly energetic record relies on dazzling, highly complex polyrhythmic piano performances that fuse traditional Brazilian rhythms with intense, avant-garde post-bop. It firmly cemented his international reputation as a leading light in contemporary South American jazz.
