Album Notes & Community Reviews
ElSaffar's debut album as a leader sets the Iraqi maqam tradition he had studied in Baghdad with surviving masters of the form against a modern jazz ensemble, in a suite named for the Tigris and Euphrates. The work was commissioned in 2006 by Philadelphia's Painted Bride Art Center and the Festival of New Trumpet Music.
