Following her massively acclaimed conceptual folk-opera 'Hadestown', Mitchell returns to a more traditional, deeply intimate form of storytelling. Produced by Todd Sickafoose, the arrangements masterfully utilize delicate woodwinds and rustic string orchestration to support her unmistakable, childlike vocal timbre. Thematically, the album acts as a sprawling, poetic examination of American masculinity, existential yearning, and the complex relationship between fathers and children.
