Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded in 1964 but unreleased for four years, this brilliant session captures the highly idiosyncratic pianist exploring complex, angular compositions. Accompanied by the fluid vibraphone work of Bobby Hutcherson and the commanding tenor saxophone of John Gilmore, the quintet masterfully balances intense, cerebral post-bop with surprisingly delicate, almost playful textures.
