Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded during a deeply fertile period for the idiosyncratic pianist, this session showcases a slight shift towards more accessible, groove-oriented post-bop. Backed by an exceptional quintet featuring Lee Morgan and Booker Ervin, the record successfully marries Hill's complex, angular compositions with the rhythmic immediacy of hard bop and soul jazz.
