Album Notes & Community Reviews

Establishing one of R&B's most distinct voices, Anita Baker's debut beautifully contrasts the era's frantic synth-funk with warm, highly sophisticated quiet storm ballads. Her unparalleled, jazz-inflected phrasing immediately marked her as a premier vocalist and paved the way for her massive late-decade crossover success.
