Centered on the immense sound of a 20th-century pipe organ recorded in Copenhagen's Frederik's Church, 'Dead Magic' merges the grandeur of neoclassical darkwave with the textures of drone, experimental rock, and metal. Producer Randall Dunn's atmospheric production captures the album's wide dynamics, from vast, funereal organ passages and heavy percussion to Anna von Hausswolff's soaring, theatrical vocal performances. The five compositions explore themes of life, death, and defiant spirituality, forming a sonically cohesive and critically acclaimed work of gothic and avant-garde expression.
