Album Notes & Community Reviews

'The Crying Light' finds ANOHNI and the Johnsons shifting from the interior focus of their previous work to a broader, more universal exploration of humanity's relationship with the natural world. The album is defined by its lush and controlled orchestral arrangements, co-developed by Anohni and composer Nico Muhly, which provide a meticulously crafted foundation for Anohni's singular, emotive vocals. Thematically, the record serves as both a personal environmentalist statement and a dedication to the profound influence of Japanese butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno, whose portrait graces the album's cover.
