Dedicated to the memory of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, the Tunisian oud master constructs a mesmerizing, cross-cultural jazz quartet featuring bass clarinet, double bass, and darbouka. The album beautifully intertwines traditional Middle Eastern modal melodies with the patient, spacious improvisation characteristic of ECM Records. It was universally acclaimed for its breathtaking emotional depth and deeply romantic, nocturnal atmosphere.
