A Sea of Faces

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as the inaugural release for the highly influential Italian jazz label Black Saint, 'A Sea of Faces' finds Archie Shepp blending fiery free-jazz intensity with deep vocal and poetic traditions. The album notably features a massive, side-long title suite where Shepp's abrasive saxophone improvisations converse wildly with avant-garde vocal performances and dense, spiritual percussion.
