Album Notes & Community Reviews
Co-produced with Quincy Jones, the legendary vocalist's daring 1973 venture actively shifts away from her traditional gospel-soul roots toward sophisticated, jazz-inflected smooth soul. The sprawling arrangements incorporate lush orchestration and complex vocal phrasing, highlighted by her iconic, soaring rendition of 'Angel', written by her sister Carolyn. It documents a period of intense creative experimentation and artistic broadening for the Queen of Soul.
