Album Notes & Community Reviews

Signifying a massive, triumphant return to form after years of personal turmoil, alto saxophonist Art Pepper delivers a blazing set of acoustic post-bop. 'The Trip' pairs him with pianist George Cables, resulting in emotionally charged, deeply rhythmic improvisations that honor his West Coast roots while embracing a darker, more complex tone. It is widely considered one of the defining comeback albums in jazz history.
