Rubinstein recorded the nineteen Nocturnes in 1965, his third complete traversal of the cycle and the one by which his Chopin is principally known. Recorded when he was seventy-eight, the set favors songlike legato and unforced rubato over display, and it has remained a cornerstone of his catalogue, reissued as a volume of the Rubinstein Collection.
