Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released when saxophonist Azar Lawrence was just 21, his debut as a leader is a towering achievement in spiritual jazz. Aiding the fiery, Coltrane-influenced compositions are a staggering array of sidemen, including Woody Shaw, Arthur Blythe, and Mtume. Blending acoustic post-bop intensity with subtle electric fusion elements, the album captures the deeply spiritual ethos of the mid-70s jazz avant-garde.
