Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Sour Soul', the live instrumentation of jazz trio BADBADNOTGOOD provides a cinematic and atmospheric backdrop for Ghostface Killah's vivid, narrative-driven rhymes. The production, primarily handled by Frank Dukes and BBNG, eschews samples in favor of original compositions inspired by 1960s and 70s soul and film scores, creating a soundscape that is both lush and gritty. This collaboration merges the raw, intricate lyricism of hardcore hip-hop with the nuanced dynamics of a live jazz ensemble, resulting in a cohesive and textured album.
