Album Notes & Community Reviews

Conceived as the soundtrack for her fifth television special, this wildly ambitious project pairs the iconic vocalist's interpretations of pop standards and show tunes with deeply unconventional, global instrumentation. Ranging from African percussion and Japanese kotos to moog synthesizers and even household appliances, the arrangements take bizarre, avant-garde liberties with familiar melodies. The resulting album is a polarizing, wonderfully eccentric oddity within her largely traditional discography.
