Album Notes & Community Reviews

This definitive recording of the Hungarian composer's sole opera masterfully captures the psychological tension and expressionistic dread of the libretto. The orchestral performance highlights the sweeping, coloristic brilliance of Bart贸k's score, oscillating between lush beauty and terrifying dissonance. It is widely considered one of the finest modern interpretations of the dark, symbolist masterpiece.
