Album Notes & Community Reviews
On 'Lower', Benjamin Booker collaborates with producer Kenny Segal to radically expand his sound, fusing a punk-blues and garage-rock foundation with the gritty, distorted textures of lo-fi hip-hop, industrial noise, and ambient rock. This experimental production, full of abrasive elements and stark dynamic shifts, provides a backdrop for Booker's songwriting, which explores themes of isolation, racial injustice, and defiant hope. His signature raspy vocal is used with range, often quieted to a ghostly whisper that complements the album's atmospheric and bleakly beautiful sonic landscape.
