An idiosyncratic, deeply theatrical debut that draws heavily from the artist's experiences busking while homeless in Paris. Relying almost entirely on classical piano figures and sparse string arrangements, the compositions are built around his incredibly resonant, virtuosic tenor. The dramatic, unpredictable song structures famously earned the self-taught musician the prestigious Mercury Prize.
