Album Notes & Community Reviews
Herrmann scored Hitchcock's film for strings alone, and this composer-conducted recording with the National Philharmonic Orchestra was the first complete release of that score. The American Film Institute later ranked the music the fourth greatest film score of all time, its shrieking string glissandi having become the defining sound of screen terror.
