Album Notes & Community Reviews

Faced with immense pressure to follow their critically adored debut, the Dutch indie-rock quartet Bettie Serveert delivers a moodier, noticeably heavier sophomore album with 'Lamprey'. The record tempers their signature jangle-pop sensibilities with distinctly muscular, grunge-influenced guitar tones, providing a much darker backdrop for Carol van Dyk's highly emotive, beautifully imperfect vocal delivery. It successfully avoided the sophomore slump, cementing their reputation as premier 90s alternative songwriters.
