Album Notes & Community Reviews
Serving as the debut recording for the enormously influential pianist, this trio session introduces his highly advanced harmonic vocabulary and distinctively delicate touch. While slightly more conventional than his later masterpieces, tracks like the original version of 'Waltz for Debby' clearly outline his shift away from pure bebop toward classical impressionism. It established him as a profoundly cerebral, profoundly lyrical new voice in modern jazz.
