Album Notes & Community Reviews

Marking her critical transition to Norman Granz's Clef label, 'Billie Holiday Sings' places the iconic vocalist in front of a small, highly sympathetic jazz combo. The arrangements eschew lush, commercial strings in favor of intimate interplay with musicians like Charlie Shavers and Oscar Peterson. The record captures her increasingly weathered but profoundly expressive phrasing during her later career renaissance.
