Velvet Mood: Songs by Billie Holiday

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Culled from the exceptionally productive 1955 sessions that also yielded her classic 'Music for Torching', this intimate small-group date highlights the weary, emotionally devastating beauty of her later voice. Surrounded by highly empathetic, deeply swinging accompaniment from Harry 'Sweets' Edison and Benny Carter, her masterful, conversational phrasing elevates familiar standards into profound personal statements. It remains a deeply moving, beautifully curated document of her peerless interpretive genius.
