Album Notes & Community Reviews
Marking his debut as a bandleader, the Texan saxophonist assembled a formidable septet featuring Julian Priester and George Cables to deliver a defining statement of 1970s hard bop. The fiercely energetic, gospel-inflected compositions established him as a premier composer and soloist within the deeply independent spiritual jazz movement.
