Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded during a prolific period for the acclaimed tenor saxophonist, this effort blends intense post-bop explorations with profound spiritual energy. The title track distinctively incorporates the rhythmic structure of a traditional Japanese sea shanty into an ecstatic jazz framework. Accompanied by a stellar rhythm section, Harper delivers impassioned, driving solos that characterize the late 70s spiritual jazz movement.
