Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded in West Germany with a blistering quintet, 'Trying to Make Heaven My Home' finds Billy Harper pushing his tenor saxophone to absolute ecstatic peaks. The compositions are deeply rooted in African-American gospel traditions, expanded through the intense, modal frameworks of avant-garde jazz. It is widely considered one of the most powerful, spiritually overwhelming statements in late-seventies post-bop.
