Album Notes & Community Reviews

A surprise release following the same year's 'Aethiopes', 'Church' finds billy woods in a more intimate and personal mode, trading grand historical narratives for tightly wound explorations of memory, faith, and survival. Producer Messiah Musik provides a cohesive sonic backdrop built from hazy, soulful loops, clanking percussion, and eerie, atmospheric textures that create a desolate yet familiar feeling. woods' dense, allusive lyricism remains as incisive as ever, delivered in a commanding, spoken-word style that feels both confessional and menacing over Musik's understated instrumentals.
