Album Notes & Community Reviews

Pairing the undisputed patriarch of traditional pop crooning with the punchy, highly aggressive orchestrations of Norman Granz's premier arranger, this collaboration presents a dramatically revitalized vocal approach. The famously relaxed singer is forced to push his unhurried phrasing against dense, immensely swinging brass charts, resulting in an unexpectedly energetic, highly rhythmic masterclass in breath control. The brilliant studio summit proved the veteran entertainer could effortlessly navigate the driving intensity of modern big band jazz.
