Grounded in themes of matriarchy, grief, and ecology, 'Fossora' is an earthbound work conceived following the death of Björk's mother, using a fungal metaphor for survival and underground connection. The album's sonic palette, termed "biological techno" by the artist, merges the woody textures of a bass clarinet sextet with the volatile, industrial beats of gabber techno.
