Album Notes & Community Reviews

Marking their first studio album in over two decades, 'Hostile Design' extends the free-jazz, dub, and art-punk chaos of 2004's 'Cough' by integrating new elements like live dubbing, electronic triggers, and samples. The band's signature dual-drummer attack and frenzied brass and woodwind instrumentation are captured by producer Ian MacKaye with a raw, kinetic energy that mirrors the group's confrontational live performances. Thematically, the album's title references anti-homeless architecture, reflecting a potent and updated social and political critique that runs through the abrasive and rhythmically violent tracks.
