Album Notes & Community Reviews

The Southern rock stalwarts incorporate former Uriah Heep keyboardist Ken Hensley, significantly polishing their gritty sound for 1980s radio formats. 'Vertical Smiles' tempers their driving hard rock with smooth AOR melodies and slick, commercial production. The stylistic shift polarized longtime fans while attempting to secure a mainstream audience in the MTV era.
