Coastal Grooves

Album Notes & Community Reviews

This is the debut album from Devonté Hynes under the Blood Orange moniker, recorded after he moved from the UK to New York. [10] The project marked a significant change in direction from his previous folk-leaning work as Lightspeed Champion, embracing a sleeker sound inspired by the city's nightlife and drawing from 80s pop, post-punk, and R&B. [5, 17] Hynes wrote, performed, and produced the album himself, creating a distinctive, sultry, and atmospheric world that would define the project for the next decade. [1, 5, 10]
