As their first album in 12 years with the original lineup, 'The Magic Whip' emerged from impromptu jam sessions held in Hong Kong, imbued with a sense of urban displacement and melancholy. The return of producer Stephen Street reconnects the album to the band’s classic sound, which is balanced by Graham Coxon’s layered guitar work and Damon Albarn’s synth-heavy, introspective songwriting that explores themes of modern detachment and reconnection.
