Devil May Care

Album Notes & Community Reviews

In his highly idiosyncratic debut, the distinctive vocalist and pianist introduces a remarkably hip, slightly eccentric approach to modern jazz singing. His uniquely nasal, highly rhythmic phrasing effortlessly navigates rapid-fire bebop lines, establishing a witty, immensely charming aesthetic that heavily influenced the vocalese movement. The uniquely swinging, conversational record remains a heavily praised, enduring cult classic among vocal jazz aficionados.
