Album Notes & Community Reviews

Though billed as the rhythm guitarist's solo debut, the album functions essentially as a Grateful Dead record, featuring the entire band heavily as his backing group. The recording sessions were highly productive, introducing enduring live staples into the Dead's repertoire, most notably the complex suite 'Playing in the Band'. The slicker studio production provides a tight, definitive document of his cosmic Americana songwriting partnership with John Perry Barlow.
