Album Notes & Community Reviews
Leaving his long-time home at Duke Records, the legendary blues crooner teamed up with producer Steve Barri in Los Angeles for this incredibly lush, highly orchestrated outing. The arrangements successfully modernize Bland's signature sound, wrapping his smooth, emotive baritone in sweeping strings and tight, funk-inflected rhythm tracks provided by elite session musicians. It proved to be a major commercial triumph, brilliantly updating traditional soul-blues for the 1970s adult contemporary market.
