Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as his sophomore outing as a leader, the celebrated pianist relies heavily on the earthy, gospel-drenched chordings that made him a crucial asset to Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Joined by trumpeter Blue Mitchell, the quartet delivers a quintessential soul-jazz date, emphasizing deeply grooving, blues-based originals over complex harmonic abstraction.
