Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded in the Netherlands while the artist was living in exile, this landmark debut is a passionate, mournful outcry against Portuguese colonial rule. Utilizing traditional Angolan semba rhythms, acoustic guitars, and the distinctive scrape of the dikanza, Bonga's raspy, emotive voice perfectly captures the yearning of a displaced people. The record famously features the original version of the international standard 'Mona Ki Ngi Xica'.
