The orchestra's music director, William Steinberg, was too ill to record, so Kubelík stepped in at Symphony Hall, and the complete cycle of six tone poems runs about seventy-six minutes. It was the third of his five recordings of the work, between the Vienna account of 1958 and his Prague Spring performance with the Czech Philharmonic on his return after forty-two years away.
