Album Notes & Community Reviews

Stepping out from his brother Wynton's quintet, the saxophonist's debut album as a leader is a stellar showcase of the 1980s neo-traditionalist jazz revival. 'Scenes in the City' balances fiery, aggressive post-bop workouts with deeply emotive balladry, supported by a top-tier rhythm section featuring Mulgrew Miller and Ron Carter. It immediately established him as a premier voice on both soprano and tenor saxophones.
