Billed at the time as the final release under the Bright Eyes moniker, Conor Oberst intentionally stepped away from his acoustic, folk-oriented past for this project. Working with producer Mike Mogis, the album embraces polished, keyboard-driven indie rock to explore themes of spiritual science fiction and cosmic philosophy.
