Written in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, 'Wrecking Ball' is an angry, populist rock record. Springsteen incorporates loops, gospel choirs, and Irish folk influences to create a rousing soundtrack for the disenfranchised. It is a defiant statement on economic inequality and the resilience of the working class.
