Bud Powell's Moods

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Compiled primarily from his monumental early-1950s solo and trio sessions for Norman Granz, this highly essential collection captures the troubled bebop pioneer at the peak of his virtuosic powers. The tracks highlight his terrifyingly fast right-hand runs and profoundly complex, highly dissonant harmonic substitutions that completely revolutionized modern jazz piano. The historically vital recordings remain an absolute textbook of bop architecture for subsequent generations of keyboardists.
