Bud Shank Plays Tenor

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Temporarily abandoning his signature alto saxophone and flute, the prominent West Coast musician exclusively utilizes the tenor saxophone for this unique date. The instrument's lower register brings out a surprisingly aggressive, muscular tone that contrasts beautifully with his typically cool, airy phrasing. It is a highly celebrated, muscular departure that proved his adaptability within the hard-swinging modern jazz framework.
