Buddy and Sweets

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Bringing together the ferociously competitive, high-velocity drummer and the incredibly tasteful, muted trumpeter from the Count Basie alumni network, this session is a brilliant study in musical contrast. The remarkably swinging quintet date benefits immensely from the leader's explosive, highly propulsive rhythmic engine clashing beautifully against the horn player's relaxed, minimalist phrasing. It stands as a flawlessly executed, highly entertaining summit of swing-era veterans excelling in a small-group format.
