Album Notes & Community Reviews

Utilizing an exceptionally smooth, reassuring vocal tone, this compilation album effectively softened the harsh edges of traditional American folklore for a mainstream, urban audience. The pristine acoustic guitar accompaniment and gentle delivery brought centuries-old ballads and spirituals into modern living rooms. The release cemented the artist's role as the preeminent, grandfatherly figure of the mid-century folk revival.
