Recorded at Vienna's Musikverein across sessions in March and April 1974, Carlos Kleiber's Beethoven Fifth with the Vienna Philharmonic is the work of a conductor whose complete studio discography fits on a small shelf. Its precision and controlled ferocity have kept it in print for five decades as a reference recording of the symphony.
