Album Notes & Community Reviews

Marking one of the pianist's earliest and most vital statements, this quartet date introduces a percussive, heavily clustered approach to the keyboard that shattered traditional bebop constraints. Featuring the highly intuitive vibraphonist Earl Griffith, the compositions engage in complex, polyrhythmic dialogues that constantly shift tempos and tonalities. The session provides a compelling, slightly transitional glimpse into the foundational building blocks of the burgeoning free jazz movement.
