Album Notes & Community Reviews

Charles Avison's 'Concerti Grossi after Scarlatti' sets twelve concertos arranged from keyboard sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, whose sonatas had been published in London by Thomas Roseingrave five years before the set appeared. A single concerto in seven parts drawn from Scarlatti's lessons had been published the previous year and was received well enough to prompt the complete set of twelve. The Avison Ensemble, directed by Pavlo Beznosiuk, recorded the concertos in Newcastle upon Tyne as part of its complete recorded edition of the composer's works.
